Exclusive: Alex Ramos
Bounces Back From Brain Surgery

Former prizefighter Alex Ramos
(39-10-2, 24 KOs) knows how to get back on his feet after life throws you a
couple of curve balls.
The “Bronx Bomber” has had his share of health woes. On June 13 and previously
on May 30, he underwent two surgeries to combat Normal Pressure Hydrocephalus (NPH),
which affects balance, increases dementia and incontinence, among other
crippling side effects. He had been falling down and forced to shuffle while
walking. During his recent procedures, Ramos, 51, had a shunt put in his brain
to allow the excess cerebral spinal fluid to flow out to relieve the
accumulation of cerebrospinal fluid.
I checked in with the ex-pro boxer at Saturday night’s HBO and Top Rank card
held at the Home Depot Center in Carson, California. The evening showcased a
doubleheader of Nonito Donaire-Jeffrey Mathebula and Kelly Pavlik-Will Rosinsky
and Ramos was there to witness all the action. Full

Gift from an Angel: Smokin’
Joe Frazier

SIMI VALLEY—Memories of our
friends, especially professional boxers who move on to better things in
heaven, are usually sweet and maybe even bittersweet. The bottom line is
that we are accepting of the fact that we are left with memories, and no
more …..UNLESS you are talking about Smokin’ Joe Frazier!
Joseph William "Joe" Frazier (January 12, 1944 – November 7, 2011), also
known as Smokin' Joe, was an professional boxer and Undisputed World
Heavyweight Champion during professional career that lasted from 1965 to
1976, with a one-fight comeback in 1981. On April 4th, 2011, he made a
final comeback as the “Undisputed Champion for Dignity!” when a check
for $20,000 arrived in the mail box of the Retired Boxers Foundation.
The check was from the Cantor Fitzgerald Relief Fund and was a donation
made on behalf of Cantor Fitzgerald to a charity of Smokin Joe Frazier’s
choice, because of Joe’s participation in a Charity Day event in New
York City. Full

Alex Ramos: One Last Fight
by Bernie McCoy -August 15, 2011
Calling boxing a contact
sport is much like calling the atomic bomb an explosive device.
Professional boxing, along with pro football, easily surpasses the
definition of a contact sport; they are both, simply stated, collision
sports. Key differences between boxing and football are that football
players wear... Full Story

Alex Ramos 50th Birthday-“Bronx Bomber” reaches milestone
January 17, 2011 By Michele Chong
Deep in the heart of
scenic Simi Valley, one can only visualize a life of tranquility and
peace, far from the high profile buzz saw of activities, typical of Los
Angeles. Simi Valley would also be an unlikely place most would think of
in terms of finding a resident from the world's sports mega-celebrity
ranks. Full
